Over the past few months I’ve been making steady progress with my top priority for 2012 – getting organised! One of the first areas that needed tackling was of course, my craft stash. I have been purging unwanted/unused items, rediscovering forgotten wonders and generally getting things sorted.
A couple of people have asked for pics/details on what I’ve been up to, so here you go! This also seemed like the perfect opportunity to join in with WOYWW again, so I have linked this post up over there. If you’re not familiar with WOYWW go and check it out. I love nosing through pics of other people’s desks and workspaces.
Most importantly, the second desk in the corner has been tidied and rearranged so that I can use it as a craft area. My main desk houses my PC, so it’s nice to have an area where I can “escape” and not be distracted by the internet etc.
The DYMO labelmaker has been put to work. Having sorted all the drawers in the desks out, and organised supplies into Really Useful Boxes, I wanted to label everything so I can locate things more easily!
And a little close up of my woodmounted stamp collection. Most of my stamps are clingmounted rubber or clear, but I do like my little display of woodmounted favourites!
The little drawers are empty at the moment, but will house my cut and dry foam, blending foam etc.
On the other side of the room are the other desks. I share the room with Paul, so it’s an office/craft space. This is my main desk. I bought a couple of monitor stands with drawers in them, which are really effective at housing all the clutter that usually ends up on the desk.
The aluminum boxes to the side of the monitor are CD/DVD file drawers, which I am using to store my thin metal dies such as Spellbinders, Dies by SCACD, Whimsy Shapeology etc.
The Grand Nestabilities dies I have all fit neatly in one of the desk drawers, stored on their original sheets with some strong magnetic tape.
The desk drawers are all 12″x12″ and are varying depths. On one side I have 20 1″ deep drawers, and these are where my rubber collection lives! I used to keep my cling mounted rubber in clear DVD style cases, but the stacks just got far too high and difficult to hunt through. Now, my stamp collection is easily accessible and right here in my desk! I store the stamps on 12″x12″ acrylic sheets which are approximately 2mm thick. Depending on the thickness of the rubber and the cling mount I can store either 2 or 3 sheets of stamps in each drawer.
This has to be my favourite stamp storage solution so far, and the best use I’ve found for the desk drawers (I didn’t like storing papers in them, particularly).
The other drawers in this desk are either 2.5″ or 3″ deep and house a variety of things from work in progress to my ink pads and acrylic blocks.
Any stash/supplies that doesn’t fit in the desk drawers is organised into Really Useful Boxes which are stacked in one of the fitted wardrobes. So much tidier and easy to find things. You wouldn’t believe the things I have rediscovered!
Thank you for joining me today. I’m feeling a little more creative now that I have made headway with Project Organisation, and now I have room to do more than just colour, so I’m hoping to be sharing lots of fun projects here very soon.
WOW!! You are SUPER organized!! I am impressed. Have a happy Wednesday:)

Great storage tips Elaine! I’m desperately trying to get organised but then I find some forgotton treasure and have to use it straight away so I end up in a big mess again!
Well done on being strict and just organising not crafting.

Your craft room is very organized. I am loving the stamp storage too. Thank you for sharing your organizational tips.
Elaine~ your workshop is SO well organized and certainly makes me drool when I see all the rubbah you have stashed 🙂 Question for you: Can you remember where you obtained the Copic/Marker carrying backs, that are on the floor by your desk, in the B&W? They are stunning and I’ve yet to organize my Copics when taking them to a friend’s house or a clase. So if you can remember I would REALLY appreciate it 🙂 Thanks !!!!
