Over the past couple of months, I’ve done a lot of colouring and not much else in terms of crafting. There has been so much going on, that settling down to make cards and other projects is a huge effort. As a result, I have a huge pile of coloured images all waiting to find their way on to cards/projects so I can share them with you! I’m getting there, slowly but surely.
Today I’d like to share a piece that has been taking shape for over a month! First, I coloured the image, then a week or so later I started working on an idea I had for the background. Then I pulled out some embellishments I wanted to use with the image, and this all ended up sitting in my “In Progress” drawer until a couple of days ago. Tsk! The image is just so beautiful that I didn’t want to rush the rest of it.
So, finally, here it is!
The beautiful image is one of the Carmen Medlin digital images from SCACD Digital – THE PROTECTOR.
I printed the image on Make it Colour Blending Card and coloured with ShinHan Touch Twin Markers (available in the UK from Jackson’s Art Supplies).
ShinHan Touch Twin Markers:
Skin: YR133, BR107, R28, R140 Hair: BR104, BR100, BR102 Dress: PB75, P81, P281
Lion: BR104, BR100, BR102, Y36, BR134, BR107, BR97 Shading: WG3, WG6, WG9
I cut the image to size with a paper trimmer, and mounted it on a black board. I then cut my background paper to size and did the same with this. After embellishing the background piece with twine and metal corners, I mounted it on a larger piece of board. The result is a sturdy piece ready for display. I also used gold leafing pen on the edges.
The background paper was created using a piece of DCWV Once Upon a Time 12×12, which I crumpled and then flattened out again before spraying with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Starburst sprays. I let this dry, then I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals on top to create more interest following the creases in the paper. The result is absolutely stunning, it’s a shame it doesn’t show up quite as beautifully in the photos as it does in person!
Make sure you take a good look at the Carmen Medlin for SCACD Digital range, the variety of images offers something for everyone, with some fun and quirky images alongside some truly beautiful ones like the one I used on today’s piece. The latest release includes some very fun images just in time for Halloween!
You can also find some of Carmen’s images in rubber both direct from Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design and at my store here in the UK Quixotic Paperie.
