No video today, I’m afraid. I’ve been falling a little behind thanks to the background stress of current world events, working on behind the scenes release work, and generally being a bit tired! All is good though – I’m getting there, albeit a little more slowly than I would like.

Back in January and February I started playing with some alternative, more budget friendly, alcohol based markers. I purchased the 120 EverBlend Art Marker set and a couple of extras from Arteza in their post-Christmas sale. Check out a few cards and some of my thoughts on the Arteza EverBlend markers below. I will do a video using these markers in the near future, don’t worry! I’ve got a few cards to share without videos, but videos will be coming.

Stamping Bella Gnome Cards

I coloured up all three gnomes from the Gnomes Have Feelings Too stamp set, and popped them on three different cards. It’s always handy to have a stash of cards for belated birthday greetings, and “just because” notes.

I stamped the images on my favourite Make it Colour Blending Card before colouring with the Arteza EverBlend markers* (also available on Amazon HERE*).
If you are in the UK/Europe you can find Stamping Bella stamps and dies at Dies to Die For here in the UK.

Arteza EverBlend Markers – My Thoughts

I anticipated difficulty creating the beard texture using the bullet nibs on these markers, being so used to the brush nib on my Copics. While I definitely prefer a brush tip, I was reminded that a bullet nib works just fine too! It is a little more difficult to get into the fine detail areas that I usually use the very tip of the brush nib for, but otherwise no issues.

I was quite pleasantly surprised by the EverBlend markers overall. If you’re in the market for a more budget friendly marker, they are worth a look.

One drawback is that currently refills don’t appear to be available. I have heard rumours that they may be available in future, but can’t find any concrete information. I’ve dropped Arteza a line and will update on this when they get back to me.

There isn’t an obvious numbering system like Copic Markers. This isn’t really a huge issue for me, as I don’t tend to rely on the Copic blending families when selecting colours. I created a colour chart and use that for colour selection.

The ink lays down well, and blends really nicely. I enjoyed colouring with these markers much more than I expected to. They do seem to go down a little wetter/darker than Copics, so I found that I needed to adjust my way of working slightly. By allowing a little longer for the ink to work on the paper and blend, I found the blending results were great, and the initial darker appearance fades back. The colours are vibrant, and there is a really nice range. I have the 120 marker set, plus the skin tones and the greys.

The “blender” marker works nicely, giving similar results to my Copic Colourless Blender on the Make it Colour card I use.

The shape of the markers feels quite nice in my hand, and they look lovely. The shape means they don’t roll, which is always nice! I do wonder how well the printed numbers are going to hold up (this was an issue with my ShinHan markers). Unfortunately the marker numbers are only printed on the caps, not the barrel, which is a little annoying. If the numbers on the caps don’t hold up well, that could be an issue. Not a total deal-breaker in my book though.

I don’t love the case that the 120 marker set comes with. This is personal preference, so you may love it, but I am generally not a fan of cases with loop holders. Ideally it would have been nice to have the option to purchase the set without the case.
